Look at the convenient image below and see which shape matches your face most.

Now let’s explore the do’s and don’ts of each face type so you can find out the which of the hijab styles for different face shapes works for you and make you look great at all times.

OVAL FACE HIJAB STYLES

The oval shape is perhaps the easiest shape to style. The oval is a symmetric face shape and will hold up to almost any hijab style. Let the hijab fall naturally framing your face and simply wrap. Your face shape looks good in every style and material. No don’ts for you. Lucky girl!

SQUARE FACE HIJAB STYLES

The square shape has a strong, heavy jawline, cheekbones and forehead. This shape requires that you keep the hijab loose under the chin to create a flow in your scarf. Stay away from the square scarf and styles pinned tightly under your chin. Instead Wear the scarf towards the front of your hairline, leaving the sides soft and loose. By framing your forehead, you appear to have a more oval face. Another easy trick is to choose materials and patterns that soften the face, making it appear rounder.

ROUND FACE HIJAB STYLES

The round face is full and you might think that styling is trickier but it is really very easy. For the round face type, you should wear your hijab quite loose around your cheeks. Don’t try to hide your cheeks, in doing so you will only put emphasis on them. By simply draping a hijab loosely it will make you your face appear more narrow. Wear your hijab high, right at the hairline and avoid wearing under scarves lower than your scarf. Wearing under scarves or hijabs to low on your forehead will make you face look chunky and short. They too should be high right on the hairline. Loose styles with volume works best for this face shape.

RECTANGLE FACE HIJAB STYLES

The oblong/rectangular face is a long narrow face. You will want to wear a scarf that shortens your face. Use an under scarf and pull it down low on the forehead help to shorten the face length. Do not use fabrics that cling to your face, instead use lighter hijabs that you will be able to work with to create some volume on the sides (not the top) to add width to your face. There are many scarf styles today that have lace, ruffles or decorations on the ends of the scarves, these would work well with the rectangular face.

HEART-FACED HIJAB STYLES

The heart-faced shape is another short face type. This face type is easy to style for. Do not add too much volume with folds and layering at the back or the sides of your face. Pin your hijab under your chin, take care to frame it right at the edge of your jaw, giving you a bigger jawline to balance out your face. Your face types allow several styling options. For soft round appearance make a point with your scarf at the top of your forehead. You can also use the plastic bands that you slip inside your scarf to create the rounded illusion. Showing your whole forehead works too though. The hijab is your playground.
